Modern Foreign Language

The teaching embraces the Language Angels scheme of work. Foreign language lessons seek to expand, revise and consolidate learnt knowledge and vocabulary whilst building on all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

A body of knowledge and vocabulary is acquired with the use of building blocks of language; increasing complexity with greater fluency over time. The learning is taught and progress assessed with discussions, quizzes and through songs. Learning a foreign language is an opportunity to gain an understanding of other cultures and the world around.

Stages of Learning:

  • Early Language – entry level for Year 3 with little or no previous foreign language learning.
  • Intermediate – an increased level for pupils with embedded basic knowledge of the foreign language.
  • Progressive and Creative Curriculum – suitable for Year 6 pupils or pupils with a good understanding of the basics of the language they are learning.
