Calculation methods
We appreciate that many parents feel unsure about the methods we use for calculation. When the national curriculum changed in 2014, there was a move back towards formal column methods. Attached at the foot of this page is a document which provides information about possible methods to use with your children for each operation (+ - x ÷) for each year group from Year 1 to Year 6. The year group is indicated in a small box in the top left corner of each page.

How to: calculate using the column method for multiplication - Suitable for Years 4-6
Multiplying with two digit numbers multiplied by two digit numbers. Suitable for Years 4-6.
